More anxiety and insomnia in USA โ€“

May 25, 2020 – Health problems, social isolation and the stress of job loss weigh on peopleโ€™s well-being. More than a third of Americans say the pandemic is having a โ€œserious impactโ€ on their mental health, according to a poll released March 25 by the American Psychiatric Association. Among parents of children under the age of 18, 46% rated their average pandemic stress level at 8, 9 or 10 on a 10-point scale, according to a survey published by the American Psychological Association on 21 may. The countryโ€™s highest mental health official recently warned that suffering could worsen if there was a second coronavirus lockout.

โ€œThis type of chronic stress causes, for all those people who have never had anxiety before, it overwhelms them in some way,โ€ explains Charles B. Nemeroff, professor and director of the department of psychiatry at Dell Medical School of the University of Texas. in Austin and president-elect of the American Anxiety and Depression Association. โ€œIf you have lost your job, if you are afraid of running out of food for your children, it will prevent you from sleeping at night. And for those with a history of anxiety and depression, stress can increase the risk of relapse.
